This stairway had a railing system that was not only the wrong style for the home's new decor, but it was also not up to code, with widely-spaced balusters that posed a safety hazard. The lower section of the stair had a solid wall that made the entryway seem smaller than it needed to. We removed the old work, built the new newels and installed the balustrade and handrail, with a fresh craftsman-influenced style. The left picture shows the original stairway; the center shows the newels and the lower run of the balusters installed; and the right picture shows the finished installation, which is certainly better-looking, safer, and it opens up the space more too.
